Diagnostic imaging is an area that utilizes x-ray and imaging equipment to examine different parts of the body to determine the location and nature of an illness. Diagnostic imaging procedures may also be used throughout a treatment program to measure the effectiveness of the treatment. Typically, these procedures are used as part of the treatment plan from oncology, pulmonary, trauma, and muscular-skeletal (orthopedic) specialists.

The Jefferson Regional Medical Center Diagnostic Imaging facility provides a wide range of services, including
  • general radiology;
  • special procedures such as angiography, biopsy, and drainages;
  • fluoroscopy;
  • mammography, including stereotactic and needle localizations;
  • CT scans; and
  • ultrasound.
Caring for the Community
The Diagnostic Imaging staff works in conjunction with the Oncology Department to provide free community breast cancer screenings. This annual event includes patient education, a breast exam by a physician, and a screening mammogram. See our Calendar of Events for information about upcoming programs.

For questions or appointments, call Central Scheduling at (412) 469-5234. Scheduling opportunities vary with the type of procedure required.

Physicians
A multidisciplinary radiological group provides diagnostic imaging services at the Jefferson Regional Medical Center facility. Each radiologist is board-certified with advanced training in their area of expertise. A radiologist is on-site at Jefferson Regional Medical Center at all times for consultation and interpretation of diagnostic imaging examinations performed at Jefferson Regional Medical Center. In addition, a radiologist is on-call after normal business hours to perform special procedure examinations.

Staff
  • All technologists are registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
  • Mammography technologists have been mammography certified by AART.
  • Many technologists carry an extra level of credentialing in their area of expertise.
  • Ultrasound technologists are registered by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS).
  • All technologists meet the continuing education requirement set by the ARRT and ARDMS in order to maintain licensure.
  • Diagnostic imaging nurses support the radiologists by assisting with procedures and monitoring.
  • A patient care associate is also available to return patients from the department to the nursing unit.
Facility
To best serve the diverse needs of our patients, the department includes a collection of high-tech equipment. This state-of-the-art equipment provides advanced imaging and enhanced patient comfort. Because most equipment produces ionizing radiation, protective devices and protective measures are utilized to ensure safety for staff, patients, and all visitors to the department.

Accreditation
The Diagnostic Imaging facility complies with all requirements of JCAHO, the American College of Radiology, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection, and the Food and Drug Administration.
